Labneh with Cucumbers

Labneh is essentially strained yogourt and very popular in greece and the middle east. I discovered labneh through my lebanese friends, and it’s been a staple in my fridge since then. If you’ve never had labneh, the way I would describe it is a dryer and denser version of yogourt.

Labneh is mostly used as a dip for pita, bread, vegetables and even chips. I mostly use labneh with veegetables and pita.

Since my girlfriend is celiac, I mostly use labneh with cucumbers, at it pairs perfectly together. In this recipe I garnish the labneh with sumac and olive oil, but it is more traditionally garnished with spices such as zaatar, mint or parsley.

Labneh is an easy way to mix it up for party snacks, an appetizer, or even a movie snack.

Description

Perfect Lebanese snack, traditionally served with pita. In this recipe I use cucumber, as my girlfirend is celiac, and cannot eat bread!

Ingredients

  • Labneh
  • Cucumber or Pita
  • Sumac
  • Herbs (Parlsey or Mint or Zaatar or Dill)

Instructions

  1. Prep: Cut up cucumbers in circles
  2. Spoon labneh on a plate or bowl, and drizzle olive oil over it and sprinkle sumac

Notes

  • I will make a seperate recipe on how to make Labneh, but in this recipe I use store bought Labneh
  • As noted in the ingredients you can use many different ingredients to garnish the labneh, but it’s also good on it’s own
